The Final Chapter

Pixelate 2006-10 – What happens when communities are empowered through new, creative technology?

The Pixelate project took place from July 2006 – October 2010 and was managed by Lets Go Global. The fundamental aim of Pixelate was to increase the creation of new media content across the communities of Greater Manchester. The project combatted social exclusion through enabling local people to play a more active and creative role in their own communities and get their voices and stories heard in the wider public realm.

You can view a short film highlighting the main achievements of the project at www.letsgoglobal.tv and an independent evaluation report is available to download below

In total 36 videos and 3 exhibitions were produced across 10 projects with more than 140 local people aged between 2 and 88 from across the Greater Manchester regions of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. All of the work produced as part of this initiative was led by the local communities themselves and delivered by a wealth of video artists, script writers, drama artists, animators and photographers.
The project was funded by the Greater Manchester Strategic Arts Fund (GMSAF) through Arts Council England North West (ACENW) and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA).
We would like to thank all of the participants, artists and partnership organisations involved in making the project a great success.
