The Pixelate projects are delivered in partnership with local authority arts officers and community based organisations. Phase 1 (July 2006-June 2008) saw projects delivered in: Rochdale, Salford, Tameside and Wigan. During Phase 2 (July 2008 – Oct 2010) we are undertaking projects in Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham and Stockport.
Bolton – Lesson Learnt?
September to November 2009
The project was delivered in partnership with The Box (a Bolton based community interest company) and Bolton Council Arts Development Team. The project took place at the Youthopia Youth Centre in Bolton.
The project was designed to equip young people with the skills needed to make their own short films and included training in script writing, storyboarding, film-making and editing films of their own design.

Bury – Text Art Animation
May to June 2009
The project was delivered in partnership with Bury Council’s Arts Development Service and recruitment was targeted at members of the local Script.Com and Eagles Asylum community groups.
The focus of the project was to work with a group of local residents to develop a series of digital art work inspired by the annual Bury Text Festival. The project aimed to engage the local community to serve as a fun, accessible and relevant introduction to the concept behind Text Art.

Manchester – Guerilla Journalism!
October 2009
The project was delivered in partnership with the BBC Connect & Create initiative and in collaboration with Manchester City Council Cultural Strategy Team.
The focus of the project was to develop professional, work related skills for local people in response to the development of Mediacity.uk in Salford Quays.

Oldham – Young Oldham Dance
May to July 2010
The project will be delivered in partnership with Oldham Arts Development Team and will culminate in a live public performance in July.
The focus of the project is to work with Young Oldham Dance, a collection of young people aged 16-18 who have been working together for a number of years and have performed at many venues across Greater Manchester. The plan is to develop an interactive video piece that will work alongside a live dance performance.

Rochdale – Alter Ego/RIPS Investigates
October 2007 to April 2008
The project was delivered in partnership with Peopleprint – a community media organisation based in Kirkholt with a 26 year history of working with a wide range of creative organisations and individuals across Rochdale and Greater Manchester.
The focus of the project was to work with a group of local people to create a series of fictional programmes that would be uploaded online and presented to the public as real life. The theme chosen was ‘Most Haunted’ and the participants invented their own online persona called R.I.P.S (Rochdale Investigative Paranormal Society).

Salford – Where Next?/No Angel
September to October 2007
The project took place in partnership with STASH – a Salford based structured day programme for adults with substance misuse problems – and with support from Salford City Council Arts Team and Salford DAAT (Drug and Alcohol Action Team).
The focus of the project was to work with a group of Salford residents to create a series of short films to be broadcast online. The ideas, dialogue and content of the films came directly from the project participants themselves.

Stockport – Dramatic Paws!
July to August 2010
The project will be delivered in partnership with Stockport Art Gallery and is open for applications.
The focus of the project is to work with a group of young people aged 13-17 from across the Stockport area to deliver an exciting new film and animation project.

Tameside – Citizen Journalism/On Hattersley
February to April 2008
The project was delivered in partnership with Hattersley & Mottram Community Media (HMCM) – a social enterprise, set up to create an outlet for local community news – and with support from Tameside Council’s Arts and Events Team.
The focus of the project was to deliver 2 live online news broadcasts on local issues/features as identified by local residents via an online forum. Which pieces of news to cover and the structure of the broadcasts was decided by the project participants.

Wigan – Life in Wigan
July to September 2007
The project was delivered in partnership with Rafiki – a Wigan based youth group for Black and minority ethnic young people aged 13 – 19 – and The Travellers Education Team (TET) – who support children from Traveller families to access education in the Wigan area. The project was supported by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Arts & Festival Team.
The focus of the project was to work with local marginalised groups and individuals from BME communities. The project wished to explore themes of identity and local community through the use of digital photography and mixed media, providing the groups with a united voice with which to express their opinions.
